Major Breakthrough in Spinal Cord Injury Repair: Biomimetic Grafts Offer Hope for Functional Reconstruction in Paralysis Patients
On July 6, Nantong University held a research presentation conference on biomimetic nerve grafts, where the neural regeneration R&D team led by Academician Gu Xiaosong of the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced a major scientific breakthrough. The team successfully developed a "programmable controlled-release biomimetic spinal cord graft (PBC)," which addresses critical worldwide medical bottlenecks following spinal cord injury, including uncontrolled inflammation, inhibited axonal regeneration, and permanent sensory and motor dysfunction. This innovation opens a brand-new translational pathway for the clinical treatment of paralyzed patients. The related achievements have now formed a complete and systematic research framework, and a series of research data have been released.
