Professor Liu Dong's Team at School of Life Sciences Uncovers Potential Therapeutic Targets for Cholesterol Crystal Embolism–Related Necroinflammation

2026-06-11

A research paper titled “CCR5 and CD74 are potential therapeutic targets for necroinflammation in preclinical cholesterol crystal embolism” has been published by Professor Liu Dong and Associate Professor Shi Chongxu from the School of Life Sciences in Science Translational Medicine . The study identifies novel therapeutic targets for cholesterol crystal arterial embolism—a severe complication of atherosclerosis—and screens candidate drugs for treating this condition.

This collaborative work was conducted jointly by Nantong University, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Associate Professor Shi Chongxu is the first author, with Nantong University as the primary affiliation. Professor Liu Dong and Professor H-J Anders from LMU Munich serve as co-corresponding authors. The research team of Professor Peter Boor from RWTH Aachen University was a key collaborator.
