The School of Public Health traces its origins to the merger of the Private Nantong University Medical School and the Jiangsu Provincial Medical Administration College in 1938, which led to the establishment of the National Jiangsu Medical College. Key milestones include the founding of the Public Health Office in January 1940, the Institute of Preventive Medicine of China in May 1941, the Preventive Medicine Teaching and Research Group of Northern Jiangsu Medical College in 1952, and the Department of Hygiene of Nantong Medical College in August 1986. Following the merger and establishment of Nantong University in May 2004, the School of Public Health was officially founded. The school has developed distinctive features in talent cultivation with remarkable outcomes, having trained a large number of outstanding public health professionals for both domestic and international fields. In recent years, students have repeatedly won major awards in national competitions such as "Create Youth," "Challenge Cup," and "Statistical Modeling."

The school boasts a strong faculty and a well-established platform system. It currently employs 89 staff members, including 70 full-time teachers. Among them, 62.9% hold senior professional titles, 93.8% hold doctoral degrees, and 52.3% have overseas experience. The faculty includes 35 high-level talents, such as "Chang Jiang Scholar" Distinguished Professors of the Ministry of Education, national-level talents, Jiangsu Outstanding Young Scholars, and Jiangsu Distinguished Professors. The school comprises seven departments (centers), one provincial key laboratory in universities for "Advanced Medical Analysis and Public Health," one provincial civil-military integration platform, and two Nantong municipal key laboratories.

The school is characterized by distinctive disciplines and adheres to an integrated approach to education and scientific research. Public Health and Preventive Medicine is authorized for both doctoral and master's degrees as a first-level discipline. It offers two undergraduate programs: Preventive Medicine (a National First-Class Undergraduate Program) and Medical Laboratory Technology (a National First-Class Undergraduate Program). Over the past five years, the school has undertaken 24 national and provincial-level research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas), sub-projects of the National Key Science and Technology Program, and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, with total funding reaching 27.1729 million RMB. Faculty members have published 725.5 high-quality papers (converted) in prestigious domestic and international academic journals, including 50 papers indexed in Nature Index, 103 papers in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Zone 1, 167 papers in CAS Zone 2, and 92 papers indexed in SCDC.
