NTU Alumnus Academician Fan Jia Won the Third “Fok Ying-Tung Prize for World Outstanding Chinese Doctor”
On September 21, the 2020 Annual Conference for the World Association of Chinese Doctors & the Forum for Anti-COVID-19 Online Medical Care was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province. Academician Fan Jia, the alumnus of Nantong University, won the third Fok Ying-Tung Prize for World Outstanding Chinese Doctors.
As the only top award for the Chinese doctors over the world, the Fok Ying Tung Prize for the World Outstanding Chinese Doctors was founded by the World Association of Chinese Doctors Council, named after Mr. Fok Ying Tung, one of the outstanding leaders of Chinese across the world, and was sponsored by Fok Ying Tung Foundation. It aims to reward the distinguished representatives among Chinese doctors, encourage more Chinese doctors to contribute to the health cause and further strengthen the recognition of and support for Chinese doctors in the countries and regions of their own.
Fan Jia graduated from NTU (the former Nantong Medical College) in 1983, and now he is the president of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University. He is also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a professor, a doctoral tutor, chief physician and an expert enjoying the special allowances of the State Council. He has devoted himself to basic and clinical research of liver tumor surgery for over 30 years. Fan Jia has made breakthroughs in clinical diagnosis and treatment technologies, put forward several new therapies for comprehensive treatment of liver cancer and transformed basic research achievements into clinical application, which has significantly improved the diagnostic rate of early liver cancer and the clinical therapeutic effect of middle and advanced liver cancer. In the past five years, he has undertaken 18 projects at the national or provincial level such as the“Eleventh Five-year Plan” National Science and Technology Support Program, “Eleventh Five-year Plan” National Science and Technology Major Project, major and general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, technological research projects of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. So far, he has completed nearly 9,700 cases of hepatectomy of liver cancer and over 2,700 cases of liver transplantation including the first case of combined liver-heart transplantation for the adult in Asia, the first adult-to-adult living donor liver transplantation and the first two adult-to-child living donor liver transplantation in Shanghai. Through plentiful delicate surgeries relating to liver, Fan Jia has cured numerous patients, earning the leading place in the world. He has won numerous scientific and technological awards, such as Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award, Tan Jia-zhen Life Science Clinical Medicine Award, Jiping Wu - Paul Janssen Award for Medicine and Pharmacy, Chinese Doctor Award, National Advanced Worker, Shanghai Benevolent Doctor Award, National Outstanding Doctoral Supervisor and so on.
