From December 27^th to 28^th, the Fourth International Symposium on New Energy, New Materials and Advanced Manufacturing Technology was held in our university. 60 experts and scholars from universities and enterprises at home and abroad participated in the Symposium. President Shi Weidong attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Shi Weidong pointed out that, in an increasing energy shortage and the worsening environment, the development of new energy, new materials and advanced manufacturing technology has become the focus of the global technology industry. The conference has set up a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge achievements in related fields and also it will be conducive to promote the rapid development of Mechanical Engineering of our university, a preponderant discipline of Jiangsu Province colleges and universities.

During the meeting, Shi Weidong made the academic report entitled The Key Technology Research and Engineering Application of Drainage Rescue Pump for Deep Shaft of Coal Mine for Energy Saving and Consumption Reducing. Professor Wang Dezhong, from Shanghai Jiaotong University, made an academic report entitled Study On the Influence of Internal Flow of the Main Pump Of Shielded Motor Core against Rotor System Stability. Professor Masuda, from Shizuoka University of Science and Technology in Japan, made an academic report entitled Taking Construction Machinery Automation as an Example to Discuss Experiences of Carrying out Industry-University-Research. Chen Wei, associate professor of Soochow University, made an academic report entitled The Gas Generation and Flow in Shale Gas Combustion and Thermal Extraction. Mahmoud a. El - Dr Emam, from Egyptian Alexandria University, made an academic report entitled CFD - DEM Approach for Simulating Biomaterials to Minimize the System Energy Consumption. Shao Shanshan, associate professor of Jiangsu University, made an academic report on The Preparation of Jet Fuel Components from Biomass by Directional Pyrolysis and Condensation Hydrogenation. And Dr. Zhang Tong, deputy general manager and chief technical executive officer of Corun Hybrid Technology Co., LTD., made an academic report entitled Hybrid Technology for Commercial Vehicles.

This conference is co-sponsored by Nantong University, Jiangsu Internal Combustion Engine Society, Jiangsu Engineering Thermophysics Society and Nantong Chongchuan District Association of Senior Science and Technology Workers. Professor Yuan Yinan, former vice President of Soochow University, chaired the meeting. Professor Cai Yixi, President of the Internal Combustion Engine Society Of Jiangsu Province, and Qian Da, vice President and secretary general of Nantong Chongchuan Association for Advanced Science and Technology, respectively addressed the opening ceremony.

Leaders from the School of Mechanical Engineering and some representatives of teachers and students attended the meeting.
