A native of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, Zhu Jianhong entered the former NantongMedicalCollege in 1977, received a bachelor's degree in medicine and a master's degree in neurosurgery. He is a specially invited professor of Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology in FudanUniversity, deputy director of the Institute for Neurosurgery in FudanUniversity, chief physician and doctoral supervisor of neurosurgery at the ShanghaiHuashanHospital.
Dr. Zhu received a Ph.D. in Neurosurgery from SuzhouUniversity in 1989, and a Ph.D. in Biology from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany in 1997. He practiced medicine and conducted research in JapanMedicalUniversity in Tokyo, Free University in Germany, Max-DellbrockNationalMolecularMedicineResearchCenter in Germany, Brigham & Women Hospital of Harvard University Medical School, and Neurosurgery Department of Children Hospital in USA.
In 2000, Dr. Zhu returned to China as a special professor at FudanUniversity. He then served as Chief Scientist of the national 973 Project, member of the Expert Group on Stem Cell Research of the National Major Scientific Research Program, expert of the first National Stem Cell Research Steering Coordinating Committee of the Ministry of Science and Technology, vice president of the Cell Therapy Branch of the Chinese Society of Cell Biology, vice chairman of the Neurooncology Committee of the China Anticancer Association, vice chairman of the Neurodevelopment and Regeneration Branch of the Chinese Society of Neuroscience, member of the Standing Committee of the Tissue Repair and Regeneration Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and vice president of the Shanghai Society of Neuroscience. He is also the editorial board member of the Journal of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, Chinese Journal of Experimental Surgery, and Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine. He receives the special stipend from the State Council.
Dr. Zhu won the World Federation of Neurosurgery’s World Young Neurosurgeon Award and the Best Paper Award by from International Cancer Gene Therapy Congress. He is the editorial board consultant of International Journal Regenerative Medicine, and executive director and treasurer of Asia-Pacific Federation of Neurosurgery (AAFNS).
Engaged in clinical research of neurosurgery for a long time, Dr. Zhu has conducted in-depth research on central nervous system’s tumors, neural stem cells, brain regeneration medicine and mitochondrial diseases. His research results were published in journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and CELL, won second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress, and were included in Ten Advancements in Chinese Science in 2014.
