Yuan Zhenghong was born in Qidong,  Jiangsu Province in 1966. In 1980 he entered the former NantongMedicalCollege to study medicine. He is currently the deputy party secretary of FudanUniversity, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, researcher, and doctoral supervisor.

He was the director of Ministerial Health Key Laboratory for Molecular Virology, vice president of Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, deputy director of Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center (affiliated to FudanUniversity), vice president of Biomedical Research Institute, party secretary and deputy director of Shanghai Public Health Clinic of Fudan University.

Dr. Yuan is the chairman of Virus Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, member of the Chinese Society of Microbiology, and honorary chairman of the Shanghai Virus Society.

He is the recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Outstanding Youth Fund award and chief scientist of major national scientific research program. He has been awarded the honor of 973 Advanced Individual, Excellent Key Teacher of Colleges and Universities, the first Young Teachers Award by the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Academic Leader, Shanghai Medical Leader and Talent, and the national 10 Million-Talents Project in the New Century and so on. He receives the special government stipend.

He has won third prize of national natural science, the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award, the Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, first prize of Technological Invention in Colleges and Universities by the Education Ministry, first prize of Chinese Medicine Award, second prize of Scientific and Technological Progress by the Health Ministry and so on.
