With two majors of physical education and guidance and management of social sports for undergraduate and sports science, the first-level discipline program for master’s degree, the school is one of main bases for training of sports teachers in Jiangsu  Province. It was granted honorary titles such as Advanced Sports Organization for five times successively by Jiangsu Education Department. The major of physical education is named as educational reform pilot major of Jiangsu Province, characteristic major of Jiangsu Province and brand major of Nantong University.

There are 8 professors, 65 associate professors, 16 doctors among current teachers in the school and 6 national judges, 35 judges of Category I, many of whom served as judges in major international competitions such as the Olympic Games, the Youth Olympic Games, the Asian Games and the World University Games. Many teachers have been commended and rewarded by Ministry of Education, Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, Jiangsu Education Department and People’s Government of Nantong City.

Recently, the School established 278 projects including 6 projects of National Social Science Fund, 16 provincial and ministry programs, 94 projects of city and department level and 16 transverse projects. There are 846 published papers including 194 in CSSCI (including extension version of CSSCI) and almost 30 published academic works and textbooks of the School. The School was also awarded 1 second prize and 2 third prizes of Outstanding Works of Philosophy and Social Science in Jiangsu Province, 2 third prizes of Outstanding Works of Philosophy and Social Science of Universities in Jiangsu Province, 3 third prizes of Twelfth Nantong Outstanding Works of Philosophy and Social Science and over 450 prizes of international and domestic seminars of scientific research papers.

The School represented Jiangsu  Province to participate in Fifth National Basic Skills Competition for Students of Physical Education was awarded first prizes of total group score, total group score of theoretical knowledge and total group score of technology and skills.

In recent years, high-level sport teams of the university have made brilliant achievements. Fencers of our university obtained 1 silver medal and 2 copper medals in the 2014 Inchon Asian Games in South Korea,totally obtained 32 gold medals, 27 silver medals and 36 copper medals and ranked fourth to eighth in more than 100 events in  National Fencing Championship for College Students for 7 times from 2011 to 2017. Our university held and participated in Jiangsu Fencing Championship for College Students, gaining 12 gold medals, 15 silver medals and 29 copper medals and ranking fourth to eighth in more than40 events. The track and field team participated in 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th National College Track and Field Championship since 2011, winning 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 1 copper medals and 1 fourth place, 1 fifth place and 1 eighth place. The team won second place of women's javelin in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, sixth place of women's javelin in Shenzhen 2011 the 26th Summer Universiade, sixth place of women's javelin in the Ninth National University Games in 2012 and second place of men’s shot-put of undergraduate group in the Thirteenth National Students Sports Games in 2017. Gymnastics team won first, second and third place each in in the 2016 National Cheerleading Competition. Martial art team won 2 first places and 2 third places in Ninth China Jiaozuo International Shadowboxing Exchange Competition and 2 second places in 2017 National Martial Art Shadowboxing Pushing Hand Competition. Taekwondo team won 1 first place, 2 second places and 2 third places in Fourth Jiangsu Taekwondo Competition for College Students. 

There are complete stadiums including gymnasiums, physical teaching and training stadium, gymnastic hall, swimming pool, table tennis room, fitness room and aerobic room, 5 standard plastic playgrounds of 400m and 1 plastic playgrounds of 300m and over 100 outdoor sport fields including tennis court, basketball court and volleyball court in the University. There is also one Experiment and Test Center for Physical Major with three laboratories of sport anatomy, sport physiology and biochemistry and sports health care and physical fitness test room for students.
