School of Public Health was formerly the Teaching and Research Departmentof  Hygiene of Nantong Medical School and it was formed when Nantong University was established through emerges in May, 2004. In more than 65 years in the past, it has cultivated a large number of excellent public health talents at home and abroad. Many of them have become well-known experts in the related industries, and the education quality of  the school has been well recognized.

There are 80 formal faculty members in the school, including 60 full-time teachers, 14 professors, 30 associate professors, 64 teachers with doctoral degrees. There are 48 master tutors and 4 doctoral tutors. In the past five years, it has undertaken 166 projects of subprojects of national key scientific and technological projects and surface projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, with a total expenditure of more than 30 million Yuan. More than 500 papers have been published in high-level core journals at home and abroad, including 360 papers included in SCI (with the highest impact factor of a single paper of 54.301).

 The school has 4 departments: Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics, Department of Occupational Health and Environmental Toxicology, Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Department of Preventive Medicine and Medical Examination, and 16 teaching and research offices: Office for Epidemiology, Office for Health Statistics, Office for Health Career Management (including children), Office for Environmental Hygiene, Office for Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine, Office for Toxicology, Office for Nutrition and Food Hygiene, Office for Hygienic Analytical Chemistry, Office for Clinical Biochemistry and for Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, Office for Clinical Basic Laboratory Medicine, Office for Blood Laboratory Science, Office for Microbiology, Office for Immunology, Office for Laboratory Management. It is equipped with 1 public health laboratory center built by the province and departments (provided with microbiology laboratory, molecular biology laboratory, medical examination laboratory, digital interactive laboratory, computer multimedia classroom, preventive medicine laboratory, clinical nutrition laboratory, instrument analysis laboratory, analysis and test laboratory and electroanalytical chemistry laboratory), 1 provincial public service platform (Public Technology Service Platform for Chemical Safety and Toxicological Evaluation), school-level innovation service platform (Public Health Technology Service and Innovation Platform), 2 institutes of Life Analytical Chemistry Research Institute and Laboratory Medicine Research Institute, and 1 experimental teaching demonstration center in Jiangsu Province (Teaching Center for Life Chemistry Experimental Lesson).  It has edited 13 textbooks as the chief editor (coeditor). It has applied for 7 national invention patents (7 authorized), and has been awarded 18 achievement rewards at municipal level.

The school has one master degree program of Public Health and Preventive Medicine as the first class discipline, enrolling full-time undergraduates in the two majors: Preventive Medicine and Medical Laboratory Technology. In 2016, the Clinical Medicine, Neuroscience and Behavioral Science entered the top 1% of ESI global ranking of disciplines. and the major of Public Health and Preventive Medicine as the mainstay disciplines ranked first in the professional contribution.

The school now has 853 undergraduates and 77 postgraduates. Over the past 3 years, the average employment rate of the graduates stands at 98%. The school boasts four excellent courses which are the Molecular Diagnostics, Medical Statistics, Clinical Biochemistry Test and Health Statistics, one “MOOC” course of Health Statistics and two “micro-lecture” course, Basic Clinical Test and Medical Statistics. The school actively carries out international academic exchange and cooperation and invites professors  from overseas to open up the short-term course, Cancer Molecular Epidemiology. In addition, many experts and scholars from famous colleges and university at home and aborad have been invited to our school to give lecture. Over the past three years, there are sixteen students participating in the exchange projects of the USA, UK, Japan and Taiwan Region. More than 40% of the teachers in our school have the visiting experience and most of our faculty have the visiting experience and studied in the first-class universities at home and aborad.

The school is a member of Jiangsu Preventive Medicine Association, a member of Jiangsu   Environmental Mutagen  Academy and a member of Nantong Crop Protection Association. 1 professor of our school serves as a member of sub-committee of teaching guidance on preventive medicine of the Guiding Committee of Higher Medical Education, Education Ministry, 10 professors serve as subeditor, member of editorial board and member of standing editorial board in national and provincial periodicals and magazines and 8 serve as vice chairman and members of provincial and ministerial academy.
