School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is one of the long-established and large-scale science and engineering schools at the university. Its origins can be traced back to the early dyeing and finishing chemistry program, and it has since developed into a significant base for cultivating high-level talents and driving scientific and technological innovation in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, and new materials in the region. Upholding the educational philosophy of "Pursuing Truth and Beauty, Mastering Expertise and Achieving Excellence," the school is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded science and engineering talents with solid theoretical foundations and outstanding practical abilities.
The school possesses a strong faculty and robust platforms, achieving remarkable scientific research results. It currently has 109 staff members, including 84 full-time teachers. Over 80% hold senior professional titles, and 94% hold doctoral degrees. The faculty includes more than ten national and provincial/ministerial-level high-level talents. The school has established several high-level platforms, such as the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Green Hydrogen-Ammonia Energy Storage and Conversion and a Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center. Chemistry is a key discipline in Jiangsu Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, ranking in the top 4.5‰ globally by ESI; Materials Science ranks in the top 4‰ globally by ESI. In recent years, the school has undertaken over 30 National Natural Science Foundation projects, with an average annual funding exceeding 20 million RMB. Faculty have published more than 150 high-impact research papers, been granted over 40 invention patents, and received several provincial/ministerial-level scientific and technological awards.
The school has achieved significant success in talent cultivation and enjoys an excellent social reputation. It currently has over 1,600 full-time students. Students have won more than 10 national awards in competitions such as the national "Challenge Cup" and the "China College Students' Innovation Competition." The postgraduate admission rate for the class of 2025 reached 45.28%, with a large number of students advancing to prestigious institutions like the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fudan University. The year-end employment rate for graduates has remained above 99% for consecutive years, with graduates widely employed by renowned organizations in the Yangtze River Delta region.
