In the recent, the first member meeting of Academic Advisory Committee of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences kicked off, at which Professor Gu Xiaosong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the Key Laboratory of Neural Regeneration of our university, was elected to the first batch of members of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics.

Academician Gu Xiaosong said that being elected as a member of the ChineseAcademy of Medical Sciences means a great responsibility and a glorious mission. He will give full play to the role as the member, expand the influence and demonstration role in the field of medical science, so as to make due contributions to development of a healthy China and medical science undertaking, as well as the construction of think tanks for medical science and technology.

As a strategic and professional academic advisory organ in the field of national medicine and health, the ChineseAcademy of Medical Sciences provides strategic consultation for the construction of national medical science and technology innovation system and core base, and the development of medical science and technology. It consists of six departments including Department of Clinical Medicine, Department of Stomatology, Department of Basic Medicine and Biology, Department of Pharmacy, Department of Health and Environmental Sciences, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Informatics (including interdisciplinary frontier disciplines). The first batch of members is composed of experts and scholars who have made outstanding achievements in the field of medicine and health with impeccable reputation. As a high-end medical academic think tank, it has provided intellectual support for the construction of medical science and technology innovation system and core base in China.

As the leader of the preponderant discipline of basic medicine in our province, Academician Gu Xiaosong has won the First National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and was elected academician of the ChineseAcademy of Engineering in 2015. He is the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences, founding member of the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery,  as well as associate editor of international English magazine Curr Stem Cell Res Ther; as a presenter of national superior course of human anatomy and academic leader of national teaching team of human anatomy, he has built an innovative team on tissue engineering with international competitiveness and won the National Award for Excellence in Innovation in 2017. Furthermore, he is the delegate of the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh National People’s Congresses.

In more than 30 years, Academician Gu Xiaosong has led his academic team achieving outstanding innovative research outcomes in tissue engineering and nerve regeneration. He has presided over 863 projects, 973 issues and key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation; he has won 12 Chinese invention patents and 5 international invention patents and published more than 150 SCI academic papers, which are cited and commented by Cell, Science, Nature, Nature Materials, Chem Soc Rev and other authoritative journals while his name has been cited more than 3000 times, with his research results included in 68 international English monographs and textbooks. He has been repeatedly invited to make presentations at the World Regenerative Medicine Conference, International Conference on Materials Science, Xiangshan Science Conference, Forum on Cultivation and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries, Forum on Innovation and Industrial Development of Medical Devices. He has been the editor-in-chief or deputy editor of 8 monographs and textbooks, and won the second prize of National Technological Invention Award (ranked first) and three provincial and ministerial awards for first and second awards. In 2014, he was awarded with the Science and Technology Awards of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation.
